How I’m Actually Sticking to My New Year’s Goals (And the Tools Helping Me Get There)
Every January, I see the same thing happen.
People start the year absolutely fired up! They get a new planner, a new workout routine, and establish big goal but then… life happens. Motivation fades, schedules get chaotic, and suddenly those New Year’s goals get lost in translation.
After more than a decade in the fitness industry - teaching yoga, Pilates, movement classes, and now serving as the CMO of BOSU - I’ve learned something important:
The people who succeed aren’t the most motivated. They’re the most consistent.
And consistency doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from doing what’s realistic, repeatable, and supportive of your actual life.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything for Me
For years, I believed that sticking to goals meant pushing harder, training longer, and “earning” results.
Now? I know better.
Here’s what actually works - especially in the new year:
- Set fewer goals BUT make them absolutely non-negotiable
- Create easy-to-follow routines (do not overcomplicate)
- Use tools that make movement feel good, not intimidating
I'm a firm believer that movement and fitness should support your energy - not drain it.
Why the Right Equipment Matters (More Than You Think)
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is relying on motivation alone.
Motivation is fleeting but your environment is powerful.
If your equipment feels bulky, uninspiring, or awkward to use, it creates friction. If it feels beautiful, intuitive, and functional? You’re far more likely to show up.
That’s exactly why my go-to tools this year are:
Not because they're cute and pink (that too) but because they work with how I train and teach.
The Matte Pink NexGen BOSU: My Daily Non-Negotiable
As someone who teaches Pilates and movement-based strength, the NexGen BOSU is unmatched.
I use it almost daily for:
- Core control and deep abdominal engagement for myotactic crunches
- Balance and stability work (especially since I'm also a horse back rider and figure skater (balance is essential))
-
Low-impact strength flows that still challenge the body
The matte, texturized dome surface gives it an elevated yet functional feel - and yes, the pink makes me want to use it. That matters more than people admit.
When a tool lives in your space and feels inviting, it becomes part of your routine instead of something you avoid!

The New BOSU Hand Weights: Small Tool, Big Impact
If you’re trying to stick to fitness goals, here’s a truth bomb:
You don’t need heavy weights - you need intentional resistance.
The new BOSU hand weights are perfect for:
- Pilates-style sculpt sessions
- Barre-inspired flows
- Adding light resistance without sacrificing your form
They’re comfortable to hold, easy to transition with, and incredibly versatile. I love pairing them with balance work or slow, controlled sequences - the kind of training that builds strength without wrecking your joints.

How I Personally Stick to My Goals (Year After Year)
Here’s the exact framework I use - and what I recommend to clients, students, and our community:
1. Anchor your goals to identity
Instead of “I want to work out more,” I ask: What kind of mover do I want to be?
For me, it’s someone who moves daily, with intention.
2. Choose tools you’ll actually use
If it feels intimidating or inconvenient, it won’t last. Period.
3. Stack habits, don’t overhaul your life
Ten focused minutes beats an hour you never do, every time.
4. Remove pressure, add enjoyment
Joy is a performance enhancer. Always.
A New Year Doesn’t Need a New You - Just Better Support
You don’t need a total reset.
You don’t need perfection.
You don’t need to “go harder.”
You need systems that support consistency, tools that meet you where you are, and movement that feels sustainable.
As someone who has spent over a decade teaching, learning, and now helping shape the future of fitness at BOSU, I can confidently say this:
The goals you stick to are the ones that fit your life.
Here’s to a year of stronger habits, smarter movement, and actually following through!
